Fatal pulmonary toxic effects of lomustine.

چکیده
Lomustine (1-(2-chloroethyl)-3-cyclohexyl-1-nitrosourea; CCNU) is a synthetic orally active nitrosourea marketed in the past few years for the chemotherapy of carcinoma, particularly of the brain. The major toxic effects are bone marrow suppression with leucopenia and thrombocytopenia and gastrointestinal effects with nausea and vomiting. Progressive lung changes resulting from cytotoxic drugs such as busulphan and bleomycin are now well recognised and recent reports have documented the pulmonary toxicity that may result from the use of BCNU (bischloroethyl nitrosourea).' 2 I report a case in which lomustine treatment was followed by fatal pulmonary changes.

Hemophilia A is a bleeding disorder caused by defective production of factor VIII. The main concern associated with the disease is bleeding, especially after trauma and surgeries. Factor VIII replacement therapy is associated with substantial decrease of bleeding events during surgery. However, there have been a number of reports of thromboemblic events in this situ-ation. The present report de...

This study aimed to improve delivery of lomustine as a chemotherapeutic agent and to increase its uptake by U87-MG cancer cells via synthesizes LN-FA-PG-SPIONs (lomustine loaded polyglycerol coated superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles conjugated with folic acid). Nanoparticles were synthesized by thermal decomposition method and characterized using TEM (transmission microscope), FTIR (Fou...

متن کاملPreliminary Metabolism of Lomustine in Dogs and Comparative Cytotoxicity of Lomustine and Its Major Metabolites in Canine Cells
The nitrosourea drug lomustine is used clinically for treating a wide variety of malignancies, most commonly brain tumors and lymphoma. Lomustine undergoes hydrolysis in vivo to form isomeric metabolites, primarily trans-4-hydroxylomustine (trans-4) and cis-4-hydroxylomustine (cis-4) in various animal species including humans. Despite its widespread usage to treat canine lymphoma, the metabolis...

Human toxicity Elemental selenium metal has a relatively low order of toxicity. Acute poisoning with selenium and its salts are rare, however, in excessive amount toxic and even fatal action was documented. Normal whole blood selenium levels in adults range from 0.085 to 0.13 mg/l [2]. All selenium salts can produce toxicity by ingestion, inhalation, and percutaneous absorption, although specif...
